Features

Azure Panel 2000

The Azure 2000 console has an awesome specification coupled with an aggressive price tag. Manufactured entirely in the UK by Avolites, a company with a proven track record and over 20 years experience in the concert touring industry, the console is set to be a clear market leader in the field of professional lighting control.

The new console is primarily targeted at night-clubs and time-coded industrial shows. Additionally, the phenomenal power of Azure 2000 will make it ideal for environmental and architectural applications, theatre and television and any events requiring powerful moving and generic lighting control. Utilising durable, water proof membrane technology with tactile feedback, the console offers simultaneous control of 200 mixed intelligent fixtures and 200 dimmer control channels. It also has the power to run 20 separate Sequences or Environments at the same time!

Unique features include 50 Direct Access memories and chases per page with 10 labelled pages, making it ideal for multi-operator situations. Chases may be run from multi-frequency sound-to-light triggers and timed overrides, programmed times or the 'Learn Tempo' function. Learn Tempo allows synchronisation of chases to the current beat by tapping the tempo button and thus entering the beat into the desk. To assist programming there is a pre-loaded Attribute Palette with up to 200 entries, giving instant access to all possible colours, gobos, beam effects and positions. The Palette may be applied to individual fixtures or to any of the 200 available groups. This enables the operator to build complex sequences and looks with remarkable ease. Another enhancement to programming of complicated sequences are the 200 pre-loaded moving light 'shapes'. These include complex waves, fans, ballyhoo's, shutter and iris sequences. New shapes and patterns can easily be created using the revolutionary Avolites Shape Generator.

There are several standard features that would normally only be found on more expensive consoles; these include Align, Flip, Fan and full 3D tracking. Further value is added by the 3½ inch Floppy Disk Drive and the Colour VGA Monitor Output - which are both fitted as standard. In addition to the 500 memories or chases, the Azure 2000 includes 20 Environment programmes. Each of these may contain multiple sequences, running from different sound-to-light inputs as well as static memories and environmental control (e.g. neon, house lights, bar lights, etc.). The Environment programmes may be controlled from the internal clock, internal Time Scheduler or an external time code input.

In keeping with the Avolites tradition of "hands on" rock 'n' roll control, the Azure 2000 is fitted with 10 submaster Playback Faders and two ultra-smooth metal shaft Optical Encoders.

The familiar Avolites attribute 'Banking' system gives instant access to all moving light parameters at the touch of a button. The encoders, working in conjunction with the attribute banks allow immediate control override of any fixture parameter. The encoders or Graphic Tablet also enables full three dimensional pan/tilt tracking of moving light beams.

To ensure the Azure 2000 is equally applicable to theatre productions, several pertinent functions are included to fine-tune the console for theatre use. These are 'Record Live', 'Live Time', 'Next Time', 'Review Cue' and 'Jump To (Cue Number)'. An important function for Playback Only applications such as night-clubs, is the Security Lockout feature. This is made up of 4 levels of coded User Authority, ensuring that untrained operators will not be able to corrupt pre-programmed shows.

A number of different configurations are available to suit your particular requirement. The standard console is designed to drop into a 19 inch rack system or control booth counter top. The console can also be configured for stand-alone use, complete with ergonomic armrest and surround. Alternatively, the Azure 2000 can be supplied as a fully flight-cased Control System with integral Graphic Tablet and remote control.

Azure Shadow

Avolites latest addition to the console is the Azure Shadow. The console is a variation of the highly popular Azure 2000 which has enjoyed success in a variety of applications, particularly clubs and time-coded environments.
The Azure Shadow features all the facilities offered by the Azure Touch Panel (the original Azure) with the additional functionality of the 'Schadow switch' live playback buttons that have always been integral to Avolites' consoles.

Avolites have listened to customer feedback which revealed that some users would prefer the conventional Schadow switch rock 'n' roll buttons as opposed to the waterproof membrane of he Azure Shadow.
For theatre users, the Azure Shadow incorporates a new suite of theatrical programming functions. The new console design also allows the specific labeling of these theatre plotting facilities on the front panel. (This suite of functions first appeared in the Sapphire 2000 and is being introduced across the console range.) The small but immensely powerful and highly cost-effective Azure Shadow can control a mixture of up to 200 intelligent fixtures and 200 dimmer channels over its 4 DMX lines giving 2048 DMX channels. It can run 20 separate Sequences of Environments simultaneously and has 50 direct access memories and chases per page with 10 labeled playback pages.

Diamond IV Vision

This is the latest in the powerful Diamond 4 Series, the new generation of top-level lighting control from Avolites. The streamlined, stylish and aesthetically pleasing profile of the D4 Vision reveals a lighting console that’s intuitive to operate, offers minimum operator fatigue and the ability to create the fastest, most cost-efficient, stunning shows.

Avolites - after intensive user research - has designed a console that is equally at home in live ‘hands-on’ situations as it is in more controlled ‘pre-programmed’ environments. This Diamond 4 Vision is designed for large-scale shows, festivals, concerts, events and multi-purpose venues. It addresses the needs of lighting designers needing fast, accurate and immediate control of numerous intelligent lights, conventional fixtures and other DMX devices. The D4 Vision builds on other consoles in Avolites’ Diamond 4 Series – the D4 Classic and the D4 Elite, incorporating yet more groundbreaking features.

The D4 Vision addresses the whole spectrum of production situations. For those with more time - and possibly with a designer away from the console - the Vision’s newly designed programming panel allows the entry and selection of fixtures and palettes by number, whilst the electronic palette gives entry by legend. These entry systems can be mixed in any way, and are always available simultaneously.

New features include the Command Syntax which allows replaying of the last entered button presses, and the storing of these for later use. Also new is the storing of Times within a Palette, expanding the ability to use Palettes during live performance, and ensuring a highly flexible toolkit for use during programming. The built-in Looks and Palettes, and the D4 Vision’s easy use, enables operation of a show when there’s been no pre-programming whatsoever.

The new processing engine ensures that response times for selecting and running anything are fast and seamless. In addition to the 24 high resolution graphic LCD screens, dual high resolution colour monitors ensure that the D4 Vision’s information is presented and formatted in an easy-to-understand-style. All data is stored on the console’s hard disk, and can be backed up onto floppy/CD or copied via the Ethernet connection to a PC.

The D4 Vision retains the Avolites tradition of being built-to-last in all respects. Robust physical construction is coupled with full upgrade-ability using the in-built modem for Internet connection whenever and wherever required.

Screen-shot of the Visualiser program

Visualiser Software

The Avolites Stage Visualiser simulation programme combines software and hardware, allowing lighting designers and programmers the opportunity to pre-programme the lighting rig without having direct access to the instruments, the rig or the venue - in effect, a virtual production rehearsal. A particular feature of the Visualiser is that is can be used on a Laptop computer using a special cable. When used in this way the Visualiser extends the capabilities of the console by showing selected fixtures and allowing previewing of memories.

The hardware comprises a 1,024 channel DMX reader card for fitting into a desktop PC and a special cable which connects to the serial port on a laptop PC and the MIDI port on an Avolites console, and the software simulates and displays intelligent fixtures on your PC. Visualiser offers all the benefits of remote programming such as time efficiency, space and cost reduction plus advance preparation for shows - particularly useful for shared console situations such as festivals, multi-purpose venues and concert halls.

Visualiser also includes full DMX monitor and testing facilities.

 mDMX - Mains DMX

mDMX is the latest in the line of data transmission products from Avolites.
mDMX sends multiple 512 channel DMX universes over mains cable at normal DMX data transfer speed.
Using mDMX there is no need for a separate DMX cable saving time and cost, fixtures can either have mDMX receivers built in, or use an mDMX receiver which distributes DMX in the usual way.
Unlike wireless systems which will always be susceptible to interference, mDMX uses cable giving it “cable reliability”.
Cable lengths of at least 250 meters carrying 4 DMX universes can be used. Additional universes can easily be accommodated by using a second mains cable.

mDMX is compatible with Avolites’ eDMX thus completing a toolkit of data transfer products and by providing a fully integrated solution the most appropriate technology can be selected, mixed and matched.

mDMX coverts the DMX 512 data into Ethernet packets using the WENDI protocol. These packets are then processed using an enhanced form of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) with forward error-correction, similar to the technology found in DSL modems. In the case of OFDM, the available range of frequencies on the mains cable subsystem (4.3 MHz to 20.9 MHz) is split into 84 separate carriers. OFDM sends packets of data simultaneously along several of the carrier frequencies, allowing for increased speed and reliability.
If noise or a surge in power usage disrupts one of the frequencies, mDMX will sense it and switch that data to another carrier. This rate-adaptive design allows mDMX to maintain an Ethernet-class connection throughout the mains cable without losing any data.
Currently mDMX is rated at 14 Mbps, which is faster than most wireless solutions [wireless DMX not wireless Ethernet], and makes it compatible with eDMX (Avolites’ wireless technology).
mDMX is based on an international standard which governs data throughput and RF interference.
mDMX limits the amount of RF interference through the low power transmission system employed.

 eDMX - Wireless DMX

The Avolites eDMX system transfers DMX data across a Wi-Fi radio link - completely removing the need for DMX data cables !

eDMX units are easily addressed and user configured, either as transmitters or receivers, allowing the fast set up of “Point-to-Point”, “Point-to-Multipoint” or “Multipoint to Multipoint” DMX Data Transmission Systems.

Each transmit/receive pair of eDMX units relays data for one DMX universe at full speed, with ranges of up to 1 Km .eDMX units can be used as a free-standing device to receive data from “front of house” consoles, thus feeding all the data into an existing wired splitter, or it can be attached directly to an intelligent lighting fixture or a chain of fixtures.

The deployment of eDMX is totally user definable - one per light, one per pipe or truss, or one just one to overcome the front of house data leap.eDMX is compact enough to be housed within a moving light fixture, removing the necessity for any data cable. Once an 802.11 (Wi-Fi) network is set up, eDMX will automatically locate its data.

eDMX works across multiple networks - each eDMX contains its own unique addressing protocol and each unit can be set to receive data from a different universe for multiple universe situations. eDMX also has a complete inbuilt Web Server that can be used to view its signal-to-noise ratio, or to provide manufacturer-specific data from the lamp head across an intranet.
